Saturday, June 13, 2015

When a woman decides that she wants to have a baby, it can be a very exciting time. However, for a woman who is diabetic, be it Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, having a child can present certain challenges that other women don't have to consider. Diabetes can cause problems with fertility that need to be treated early so that a woman can best preserve her ability to have a family.

Metformin: A Beginner's Guide

For centuries people have used French Lilac (Galega officinalis) to treat the symptoms of diabetes mellitus. But it was only in the last century that the active ingredient was isolated and identified. This compound, a single guanidine ring, while itself being too toxic to be used in the long term management of diabetes, led to the development of one of the safest and most widely used of all the antidiabetic medications: metformin.

Insulin Resistance Symptoms
By >> Shen Torres

Insulin Resistance is a condition wherein the cells of the body are already resistant to insulin. This is a serious condition, as insulin resistance symptoms destruct our healthy body functions. We need insulin to help us control the glucose level in our blood. If we have this kind of problem, greater chances that we will be developing Diabetes Mellitus due to chronic increase of sugar level in our blood.

Normally, cells use Insulin to get glucose. The vehicle of glucose of insulin, without insulin, cells could not use glucose for energy. However, in this case, the body is producing insulin normally, the problem is that, the cells are the ones who could not accept it. They developed resistance due to many factors, such as obesity, pregnancy, metabolic syndrome, stress, and a lot more. These are just the common factors that could trigger resistance.

This disorder is associated to Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, which occur later in life. The problem in DM type is almost the same with insulin resistance. However, it is already the severe case of insulin resistance, because in DM type 2, the pancreas was altered. Due to chronic resistant of cells to insulin, it will then accumulate. High level of insulin signals the pancreas to stop producing insulin. When this happens, there would be lack of insulin in the body, thus glucose will increase as they will not be used up anymore for energy. Chronic insulin resistance will then lead to DM type 2.

A lot of insulin resistance symptoms involve physical changes. Since insulin is a hormone produced by the beta cells of pancreas, therefore when its functions will be altered, they can cause abnormal level of hormones in our body.

Steps to Prevent Diabetes Naturally

by >> John Phillip

Type 2 diabetes continues to reach epidemic levels in America, doubling the risk of stroke and sudden death from a heart attack. This insidious disease attacks the body\'s vascular system, causing metabolic imbalances which reduce quality of life and increase mortality from all causes.
New cases of diabetes are skyrocketing with diagnosis in children becoming all too common, predisposing them to a lifetime of suffering and a shortened lifespan. For the vast majority of people, Type 2 diabetes is a problem caused by poor food choices, and is best prevented and treated through a natural multi-step approach to diet and lifestyle.

Step 1. Monitor Post Meal Blood Sugar Levels
Type 2 diabetes is a disease characterized by excessive sugar circulating in the blood. The cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, and sugar uptake becomes inefficient leading to high blood sugar levels especially after eating.

Research indicates that it is the surge of blood sugar after each meal which leads to metabolic dysfunction and ultimately to full blown diabetes. Further, the risk of devastating complications associated with diabetes increases as post meal blood sugar levels rise. Keep blood sugar readings 1 hour after eating below 140 mg/dl and 2 hour readings below 120 mg/dl to reduce disease risk.

Step 2. Eat Healthy – Eliminate Refined Carbs
Poor diet is the primary cause of Type 2 diabetes. Specifically, it\'s the excessive amount of refined carbohydrates most people eat throughout the day.

Diabetes and Stress Connection

Stress-Diabetes Connection- Is there any and what is the mechanism? While there are several factors that contribute to the development of diabetes, stress is an important one.

Type 2 Diabetes
About 95% of diabetics suffer from Type 2 diabetes, which occurs due to a process in the body called insulin resistance. Stress is a major cause for insulin resistance. Obesity is another important culprit for insulin resistance. Stress Eating is the main underlying cause for obesity. In this way, stress significantly contributes to a person's obesity and risk for developing diabetes.

Insulin resistance is a process in the body which causes insulin, a chemical in your body, to be less effective in keeping your blood sugar normal. Consequently, your body produces more insulin in order to keep your blood sugar normal. This compensatory increase in the amount of insulin may control your blood sugar for a while, but it's harmful for the rest of the body. Large amounts of insulin can raise your blood pressure and increase your risk for cancer. Insulin resistance also increases your risk for heart attacks and strokes.
After many years of escalating insulin resistance, eventually your insulin producing cells in the pancreas get exhausted and cannot churn out the huge amounts of insulin. At this point, your blood sugar starts to rise and you end up being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes
Type I diabetes is the other type of diabetes. It is much less common, accounting for about 5% of diabetics.
